Kanyi Muraguri: 2 Negroes Arguing in a Closet, in the Nighttime

Kanyi Maraguri 2 Negroes Arguing in a Closet in the Nighttime 2015

In the 1800’s the poet Paul Bilhaud grabbed a paintbrush and enveloped a canvas in black. When he got done with his “painting” he named it Combat de Nègres dans un Tunnel (Negroes Fight in a Tunnel). This crazy clown should have stuck to what he did best, which was writing poetry.

When I first saw Bilhaud’s work I burst out laughing. I found it funny and offensive at the same time. I then decided to create a series of work based on the color Black.

  1. Kanyi, I’m sorry there are fewer likes than I had expected for such a beautiful image.
I suspect that it has been seen as racist rather than anti-racist. Perhaps your explanation was not read. I think it’s an excellent piece conceptually as well as visually, and I look forward to posting more of your work.
