Melody Hall: Would you like to know who I am?

I am a product of War and a product of my environment. I was born on the borderline of Kentucky and Tennessee to an immigrant and a soldier. My heritage is a blend of more than a few cultures. I was not raised to hate anyone but a times felt like I hate everyone. I’ve fallen and I’ve gotten back up a few times, like everyone else. Even when I think I have nothing left, I pursue.

I am a photographer and I am a strong woman. I tell stories with pictures. My fears, they drive my photography. I’ve been scared because I am human. The camera, it’s just a tool, it’s no different from a hammer or a paint brush, a machine gun or a sewing machine. I use it to tell my stories, and to share those fears. It’s how I got to know who I really am.

I create self portraits to share my ideas with the world, it’s what I have to bring to the table. I think conceptually and shoot for myself. I was originally self taught but that only got me so far. I’ve gotten one degree in fine art and am currently working on my Masters. I do it for myself, the education is something that no one will ever be able to take away from me. It’s probably the only thing I have that is all mine and achieved because I believed in myself. I don’t need it to make a photograph, anyone can pick up a camera and push a button.

I state the obvious. I am not in denial, I know who I am. I demand respect and have no time for cowards or people that can’t be honest with themselves. That’s who I am, who the fuck are you?
